What is a Thyristor?
A thyristor is a type of semiconductor switching device primarily used for power control. It has three terminals (anode, cathode, and gate), and conduction begins when a current is applied to the gate. Once switched on, the thyristor remains conducting until the current is interrupted. With high voltage resistance and large current handling capabilities, thyristors are widely used in motor control, lighting adjustment, and power conversion devices. They are particularly effective in controlling AC circuits, although their switching speed is relatively slow.
Application of Thyristor
✅Motor Speed Control
Regulates the rotational speed of motors for efficient operation.
✅Dimming Devices
Used in circuits to adjust the brightness of lighting.
✅Rectifier Circuits
Employed in converters to transform AC to DC.
✅Power Regulators
Utilized in industrial heaters and ovens for output adjustment.
