What is a Power MOSFET?

Power MOSFET is a general term for MOSFET devices that support high-power applications. MOSFET is a field effect transistor (FET) that can obtain amplified output by applying voltage to the gate terminal to turn on the drain and source, and MOS is an acronym for "Metal Oxide Silicon". In the past, when it came to switching elements, bipolar transistors with base, collector, and emitter terminals were the mainstay, but in comparison, MOSFETs have faster switching speeds, low voltages, and low on-resistance, so they are capable of low-loss operation.
