What is a Tactile switch?
A tactile switch is a type of electronic component that provides physical feedback (tactile response) when pressed. Typically small and lightweight, these push-button switches are often mounted directly onto circuit boards. When pressed, they complete an electrical circuit, and when released, they return to their original state. Most tactile switches are momentary-type, meaning they only stay active while being pressed. Because they offer clear tactile feedback, they help prevent accidental operation. As a result, they are widely used in household appliances, industrial equipment, medical devices, and automotive control panels. They are particularly common in smartphones, remote controls, game controllers, and keypads where frequent operation is required.
Tactile switches are cost-effective, simple in structure, and highly durable. Some models feature waterproof and dustproof designs, making them suitable for harsh environments. Recently, silent models and energy-efficient designs have been introduced to meet various application needs.
