What is a Electric double layer capacitor?

Electric Double-Layer Capacitors (EDLC), also known as supercapacitors or ultracapacitors, differ from traditional capacitors in that they have an extremely high capacitance. They consist of electrodes and an electrolyte, and the key feature is the formation of an "electric double layer" on the electrode surface, which enables them to store a large amount of static energy.
