What is a Electric double layer capacitor?
Electric Double-Layer Capacitors (EDLC), also known as supercapacitors or ultracapacitors, differ from traditional capacitors in that they have an extremely high capacitance. They consist of electrodes and an electrolyte, and the key feature is the formation of an "electric double layer" on the electrode surface, which enables them to store a large amount of static energy. This structure allows EDLCs to rapidly store and discharge energy, offering much higher power density than conventional capacitors. Due to their ability to withstand thousands of charge/discharge cycles, EDLCs are suitable for applications requiring long life and high reliability. They are widely used in energy storage systems, electric vehicles, and uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), where rapid bursts of power are necessary. Compared to traditional electrolytic capacitors, EDLCs offer higher efficiency, longer lifespan, and environmentally friendly properties.
