What is a Optical microscope / Stereo optical microscope?
An optical microscope is a type of microscope that uses visible light to magnify and observe the detailed structure of samples. It typically uses lenses to focus light and magnify objects, with magnification generally ranging from 100x to 1000x. Optical microscopes are suitable for observing fine structures such as cells, microorganisms, and tissues. Different observation modes, such as brightfield, darkfield, phase contrast, and interference microscopy, can be used depending on the application and sample requirements.
On the other hand, a stereo microscope (also known as a dissecting microscope) is an optical microscope designed for 3D observation of specimens. Unlike standard optical microscopes, stereo microscopes offer lower magnification but provide a three-dimensional view, making them ideal for observing surface structures and larger objects. Typically, magnification ranges from 10x to 100x, and they are commonly used in biology, materials science, and engineering. Stereo microscopes have two light paths to create parallax, enabling stereoscopic vision, and are well-suited for hands-on tasks and fine manipulations during experiments.
Application of Optical microscope / Stereo optical microscope
1.Cell Observation
Optical microscopes are widely used in cell biology for observing the internal structure of cells and tissues. For example, they are useful for studying the process of cell division and examining cellular organelles like mitochondria and the Golgi apparatus.
2.Surface Analysis of Materials
Stereo microscopes are used for analyzing the 3D structure of materials such as electronic components and metal surfaces. For instance, they are useful for inspecting printed circuit boards (PCBs) and detecting surface defects, such as scratches or imperfections.
3.
3.Plant Observation
Stereo microscopes are also used to examine the structure of plant leaves, flowers, and seed surfaces. Their low magnification and wide field of view make them ideal for botanical research and studying plant morphology.
