What is a Control relay?

A control relay is an electrical switching device used to automate the switching of electrical circuits. It allows a small current or low voltage to control a much larger current, making it an essential tool for managing electrical circuits safely and efficiently. A relay consists of a coil and contacts. When current flows through the coil, a magnetic field is generated, causing the contacts to open or close, thereby controlling the flow of current. This mechanism enables remote switching of another circuit.

Control relays are widely used in various industries, including industrial machinery, household appliances, vehicle electrical systems, and building automation systems. For example, they are used for turning motors on and off, automating lighting systems, and controlling elevator operations. Additionally, control relays often have protective functions, such as automatically disconnecting circuits in the event of overcurrent or overvoltage, thus enhancing safety.
