What is a EV battery?
EV batteries (Electric Vehicle Batteries) are high-performance energy storage systems used as the primary power source for electric vehicles (EVs). Lithium-ion batteries are predominantly employed due to their high energy density, long lifespan, and lightweight characteristics. EV batteries supply the energy needed to drive the motor installed in the vehicle and often feature regenerative braking systems, which capture and reuse energy generated during deceleration. This efficient energy management significantly reduces the environmental impact compared to traditional internal combustion engine vehicles.
EV batteries are designed with a three-layer structure: cells, modules, and packs, each layer being carefully managed and protected. The Battery Management System (BMS) monitors parameters such as temperature, voltage, and charge-discharge status to ensure safety and efficiency. The capacity and charging speed of the battery directly affect the vehicle's range and charging time, making these factors critical to the competitiveness of EVs.
In recent years, next-generation battery technologies such as solid-state batteries have been under development, promising further weight reduction, faster charging, and extended lifespan. Recycling technologies for used batteries are also advancing, promoting resource efficiency and environmental protection. Beyond serving as a power source, EV batteries play a vital role in energy management systems when integrated with renewable energy sources.
