What is a Airbag?
Airbags are safety devices in vehicles designed to protect occupants during collisions. They work by inflating instantly upon impact to prevent occupants from striking hard surfaces such as the steering wheel, dashboard, windows, or other parts of the car, thereby reducing the risk of injury.
The basic structure of an airbag includes sensors, an inflator, and the airbag itself. During an accident, the sensors detect the impact and send a signal to the inflator. The inflator then produces gas, causing the airbag to deploy rapidly. The airbag inflates for a brief moment during the impact and then deflates.
There are several types of airbags, including:
✅Driver Airbag
Located within the steering wheel to protect the driver.
✅Passenger Airbag
Installed in the dashboard to protect the front passenger.
✅Side Airbags
Embedded in doors or seats to shield occupants during side impacts.
✅Curtain Airbags
Positioned along the roofline to protect the head during side collisions.
✅Knee Airbags
Protect the lower body of the driver or front passenger.
Airbags are most effective when used in combination with seat belts. Without a seat belt, airbags may not function correctly and could even cause injuries. Therefore, airbags complement seat belts but do not replace them.
