What is a Biodiesel?
Biodiesel is a type of diesel fuel derived from plants or animals. Composed of long-chain fatty acid esters. It is usually made by chemically reacting a lipid such as an animal fat, soybean oil, or other vegetable oil with an alcohol to produce a methyl, ethyl, or propyl ester through a process of transesterification. Unlike vegetable or waste oils, biodiesel is a fuel that is compatible with existing diesel engines and distribution infrastructure.
Application of Biodiesel
Biodiesel is now widely used as a sustainable energy source. It is common to mix petroleum-derived diesel with biodiesel. Blends of biodiesel and conventional petroleum-derived diesel are commonly sold because the biodiesel powers equipment that is powered by conventional petroleum-derived diesel.
