What is a Scandium (Sc)?
Scandium (Sc) is a chemical element in the 3rd group of the periodic table, with an atomic number of 21. It was discovered in the 1950s by a Swedish chemist. Scandium is a silvery-white metal that is hard and stable at room temperature, although it can oxidize at higher temperatures. It is a very light metal with low density, making it ideal for applications where weight reduction is important, such as in aerospace, sports equipment, and automotive parts. Scandium is also used in solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) and hydrogen fuel cells. Due to its rarity, scandium is relatively expensive. While not harmful in small quantities, excessive intake can be detrimental to health.
