What is a Strontium (Sr)?
Strontium (Sr) is a chemical element in the alkaline earth metal group with an atomic number of 38. It is a silvery-white metal that reacts with oxygen to form an oxide. Strontium compounds, particularly strontium salts, are widely used in the production of fireworks, where they produce a bright red color. It also has industrial applications in magnets and radiation therapy. Strontium-90, a radioactive isotope, is produced during nuclear fission and is used in radiation therapy and found in nuclear waste. While strontium occurs naturally in trace amounts in the body, excessive intake can be harmful, especially when it is radioactive.
