What is a Dicyclohexylamine?

Dicyclohexylamine (chemical formula: C₁₂H₂₅N) is a colorless to pale yellow liquid with a strong amine-like odor. It is an organic compound derived from cyclohexane, consisting of two cyclohexyl groups attached to an amine nitrogen atom. It is sparingly soluble in water but miscible with organic solvents. This compound is widely used in the manufacture of rubber chemicals, corrosion inhibitors, surfactants, dyes, pesticides, and lubricant additives. One of its key roles is as a vulcanization accelerator and intermediate in the production of fine chemicals.

In organic synthesis, dicyclohexylamine is used as a base catalyst and intermediate, particularly in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals and oilfield chemicals. It plays an essential role in industrial and agricultural chemistry. Due to its corrosive and irritant properties, proper handling is required.
