What is a Decabromodiphenyl ether (DecaBDE)?

Decabromodiphenyl ether (DecaBDE) is a brominated flame retardant widely used in plastics, textiles, and electronic equipment to reduce flammability. Its chemical formula is C₁₂Br₁₀O, and it consists of a diphenyl ether backbone with ten bromine atoms. Due to its effectiveness and stability, DecaBDE was commonly added to items like television housings, wiring insulation, and building materials.
