What is a Hexafluoroisopropanol (HFIP)?

Hexafluoroisopropanol (HFIP, chemical formula: C₃HF₆O) is a highly polar fluorinated alcohol, characterized by six fluorine atoms replacing the hydrogen atoms of isopropanol. It is a colorless, volatile liquid known for its unique physicochemical properties, including high dielectric constant, strong hydrogen bond accepting ability, and high volatility. HFIP is widely used as a solvent for proteins, peptides, and synthetic polymers, especially in structural analysis and spectroscopic techniques such as NMR and CD spectroscopy.
