What is a Lanthanum oxide (La₂O₃)?

Lanthanum oxide (La₂O₃) is a white or pale yellow powder and an important compound of the rare earth element lanthanum. It is hygroscopic and readily absorbs moisture and carbon dioxide from the air, gradually forming lanthanum hydroxide or carbonate.
