What is a Shuttle valve?
A shuttle valve consists of a movable part called a shuttle, two input ports (port A and port B), and one output port. In the initial state, the shuttle is in the neutral position, port A and output port are connected, and port B is closed. When fluid is supplied from port A, the shuttle is pushed by the fluid and connects port A and the outlet port. On the other hand, if fluid is supplied from port B, the shuttle is pushed by the fluid and connects port B and the outlet port. This mechanism allows the shuttle valve to switch the flow to the output port depending on the direction of fluid supply.
Shuttle valves are made of materials such as aluminum, and the valve body is made of nylon or synthetic rubber. A small amount of leakage may occur from the valve, which makes it unsuitable for use as a stop valve. However, it is still widely used in various industries due to its simple structure, high reliability, and flexibility in control processes.
