What is a Surface plate?

A surface plate is a table with a highly accurate flat surface that serves as a reference when processing, assembling, measuring, or testing a machine or device. It is sometimes written as "Seiban" and is called "surface plate" in English. Rectangular and square surface shapes are common, but there are also circular ones. The size ranges from about 30 cm to several meters, and the accuracy of the plane is specified by grade, so you can select the appropriate one according to the application. The surface plate is very important because it serves as a flat reference. Manufactured from rigid materials, mainly cast iron, gabbro (black granite) and ceramics.
