What is a Encoder?
An encoder (English: Encoder) is a device that converts a change in position into an electrical signal and outputs it. The target of the measurement position is the rotation angle and linear displacement. The encoder that measures the rotation angle is called a rotary encoder, and the encoder that measures linear displacement is called a linear encoder. There are two types of methods for measuring changes in position: incremental method and absolute method. Light, magnetic force, electromagnetic induction, etc. are used for measurement.
Application of Encoder
Encoders are primarily used in machines that use motors. Machines used often require precise motion control, such as industrial robots, automobiles, elevators, and automatic guided vehicles. Especially now that the automation of factories is advancing, it is often used in factories. When choosing an encoder, it is necessary to consider measurement accuracy and resolution, reaction time, size and shape, durability against vibration and shock, and protection against the usage environment.
