What is a Rotary encoder?

A rotary encoder is a device for measuring the amount of movement due to the rotation of the object to be measured. It is divided into two types of measurement methods, incremental and absolute. The former measures the relative value of the rotation position, and the latter measures the absolute value of the rotation position. A general rotary encoder uses light to make measurements, and measures the number of revolutions by measuring the pulse wave of light that passes through the holes of a rotating disk with holes at regular intervals. In addition to light, there are also products that use the amount of change in magnetic force and capacitance for measurement.
