What is a Bipolar transistor?
A Bipolar Junction Transistor (BJT) is a semiconductor device used for current amplification or switching, operating by utilizing two types of charge carriers: electrons and holes. A BJT has three terminals: emitter, base, and collector. Current flows from the emitter to the base and then to the collector, enabling its operation. BJTs are commonly used in analog circuits and switching circuits, particularly excelling at current amplification. They are widely used in audio equipment, power supplies, and radio frequency (RF) devices. There are two types of BJTs: NPN and PNP. In an NPN transistor, electrons flow from the emitter to the base and then to the collector, while in a PNP transistor, the current flows in the opposite direction.
Application of Bipolar transistor
1.Audio equipment: Used for amplifying audio signals.
2.Power supply: Used for amplifying and controlling high currents.
3.Radio Frequency (RF) devices: Used for amplifying high-frequency signals.
