Turret lathe / List of 4 manufacturers
What is a Turret lathe?
A turret lathe is a lathe with a rotary tool post called a turret. Now that CNC lathes equipped with computer-based NC (numerical control) devices have become the mainstream instead of conventional general-purpose lathes, turret lathes can be said to be representative of CNC lathes used in many manufacturing sites. Whereas general-purpose lathes change tools every time the process changes, turret lathes can change tools simply by rotating and indexing multiple tools attached to the turret. Due to this ease of use, turret lathes can be automated, enabling speedy and high-precision machining.
Application of Turret lathe
Turret lathes are commonly used in the roughing or finishing process of workpieces. There are a wide variety of processing types, including external grinding, grooving / parting, drilling, boring, and thread cutting. By attaching multiple tools to the turret, even workpieces with complicated shapes can be machined speedily without setup changes, leading to improved production efficiency. In addition, the specifications of the turret lathe itself are diverse, and their uses are various. For example, a model equipped with multiple turrets and spindles can process two or more at the same time, making it suitable for workpieces that emphasize productivity.
