Electrical discharge machine / EDM / List of 5 manufacturers
What is a Electrical discharge machine / EDM?
A Electrical Discharge Machine (EDM) uses electrical discharges to shape metal. This process involves creating sparks between the tool and the workpiece, which melt and remove metal. There are mainly two types of EDM: wire EDM and die-sinking EDM. In wire EDM, a thin wire generates electrical discharges to precisely cut or drill complex shapes in metal. Die-sinking EDM, on the other hand, uses electrodes to carefully shape the workpiece. EDM is highly effective when working with hard metals and when producing parts that require extremely high precision, which conventional machining methods may not be able to achieve. Because EDM does not involve cutting forces, it reduces heat distortion and tool wear, allowing for the production of parts with excellent wear resistance and durability.
Application of Electrical discharge machine / EDM
✅Mold Manufacturing
EDM is used to manufacture precision molds and dies, especially for creating complex shapes that conventional cutting methods cannot achieve with the same level of accuracy.
✅Aerospace Parts Machining
The aerospace industry requires extremely precise parts. EDM is used to precisely machine very hard materials, allowing for the production of durable components.
✅Electronics Components Machining
EDM is widely used in the manufacturing of electronic components that require precise hole drilling and cutting, especially for circuit boards and connectors.
✅Repair of Metal Molds and Tools
EDM is also used to repair worn-out metal molds and tools. It allows for the precise restoration of worn areas, extending the lifespan of the tools.
