What is a Shot blast?
Shot blasting is a surface treatment method in which projectiles such as sand, glass balls, steel balls, and ceramics are struck on the surface of a workpiece such as metal at high speed. It's called shot peening or just blasting. The purpose is to clean the surface by removing rust and scale, and to roughen the surface. Steel is hardened by processing. One of the purposes is to use this phenomenon to perform work hardening in a narrow area of the surface layer by applying shot blasting.
Application of Shot blast
It is generally performed as a heat treatment, casting, forging incidental work, or as a base treatment for painting. When used as an accompaniment to heat treatment, it is used for rust and scale removal, but its main purpose is to cause work hardening on the surface. By causing work hardening, it can be expected to impart wear resistance by surface hardening, improve the tensile strength of the surface part, and generate compressive stress on the surface part to improve the fatigue resistance. When it is performed as an accessory to a casting, the purpose is to clean the sand and rust after casting.
