What is a Ball end mill?
A ball end mill is an end mill with a spherical tip, which is a cutting tool used in machine tools. Since the shape of a normal end mill is flat, the cross-sectional shape of the cutting surface is at a right angle, but when cutting with a ball end mill, the cross-sectional shape can be curved. By using a ball end mill, it is possible to freely form a curved surface as long as it has a radius of curvature equal to or greater than the ball radius of the ball end mill, without using a 5-axis processing machine that has a mechanism to tilt the cutting tool.
Application of Ball end mill
Since the ball end mill is suitable for cutting to form a curved surface shape, when providing a fillet part at the corner of the bottom surface to prevent parts and dust from accumulating, or when providing a semi-cylindrical groove as a liquid flow path. It is used when you want to cut.
