What is a Ball mill?
A ball mill is a type of crushing device that crushes balls such as alumina as a crushing medium by putting them in a cylindrical container and rotating them. In a broad sense, there are vibration ball mills that vibrate the container and planetary ball mills that rotate and rotate, but in general, the one that rotates the container is called a ball mill. A crushing ball (diameter 20 to 100 mm) and raw materials are put into this device that has the function of rotating horizontally, and the raw materials are finely crushed by collision with the crushing balls, impact between the crushing balls and the inner surface, and grinding. There is also a bead mill as an instrument for crushing raw materials. The crushing power of a ball mill is determined by the free fall of the crushing ball. On the other hand, in the bead mill, a strong impact force is forcibly applied by centrifugal force by the stirring device. Another feature of the bead mill is that the bead diameter is 2 mm or less, which is smaller than that of a ball mill. Due to the characteristics such as the difference in crushing energy, these devices are used properly in the field.
