Drill reamer / List of 6 manufacturers
What is a Drill reamer?
A drill reamer is a tool that can perform drilling and reamer processing at the same time. Normally, reamer processing is performed after drilling a pilot hole. (Reaming: Finishing to adjust the hole diameter accuracy and surface roughness.) Therefore, the same hole must be machined twice. However, with a drill reamer, reamer processing can be performed at the same time with one processing, so a significant reduction in processing time can be expected. Generally, the tip has a drill shape and a reamer shape from the center of the cutting edge to the root.
Application of Drill reamer
There is no need to use a drill reamer to drill holes for bolts or holes that do not require positioning. Normal drilling is sufficient. Then, when is it used? Take a mold as an example. The lifeline of the mold is the die and the punch. It is necessary to adjust the clearance between the die and the punch in 1/100 increments so that the die and punch can be installed in the same position no matter how many times they are reassembled. That's where the positioning pin comes in. Use a drill reamer in the hole to fit this positioning pin. If this hole is not accurate, the position of the punch and die will be misaligned even if the positioning pin is driven. In the worst case, it will lead to damage. In this way, drill reamers are used when drilling holes that require accurate positioning and when machining precision parts to fit tolerances.
