What is a Shore hardness tester?
A shore hardness tester is an instrument for measuring industrially defined hardness called "shore durometer". Shore hardness is expressed as "HS + numerical value". This instrument determines the shore hardness by hitting a diamond indenter against a sample from a certain height and measuring the height at which the indenter bounces after a collision. Compared to other hardness measurement methods, the measurement time is short and the measuring instrument is easy to carry, so it is used at various manufacturing sites in Japan.
Application of Shore hardness tester
Shore durometers are not often used in Europe, and Vickers hardness tests, which can measure hardness more accurately, tend to be preferred. On the other hand, the Japanese JIS standard uses a method of converting the standard value of shore hardness from Vickers hardness. This is one of the reasons why shore durometers are widely accepted at manufacturing sites in Japan. There are two types of shore durometers, the C type, which directly reads the height of the jump on the scale, and the D type, which reads the value indicated by the attached dial. The D type is the most common.
