What is a Disconnector?

A disconnector (Isolator Switch) is a type of electrical switch used to completely isolate an electrical circuit. It is primarily used in power systems and industrial electrical networks to ensure safe maintenance and inspection.
The main function of a disconnector is to cut off the electrical current entirely, preventing electric shock hazards for workers. Unlike circuit breakers, disconnectors cannot be operated under load conditions and are used mainly when the circuit is de-energized.

There are several types of disconnectors:
✅High-Voltage Disconnector – Used in substations and transmission lines.
✅Low-Voltage Disconnector – Installed in industrial and building distribution panels.
✅Load Break Switch (LBS) – Can disconnect small-scale loads.

In industrial facilities, low-voltage disconnectors are used to safely isolate electrical panels for maintenance, reducing the risk of electrical shock for technicians.
✅Solar Power System Maintenance
When maintaining solar panels or inverters, DC disconnectors are used to completely cut off the power supply, allowing safe handling of the system.
