What is a Field Effect Transistor?
A FET (Field Effect Transistor) is a semiconductor device that changes the current flowing between the source and drain by applying a voltage to the gate electrode and controlling the flow of electrons or holes using the electric field in the channel. Because it uses only one type of carrier, either holes or electrons, it is also called a unipolar transistor, or field effect transistor in Japanese. Like a bipolar transistor, an FET also has three electrodes. The terminal corresponding to the base is the gate, the terminal corresponding to the collector is the drain, and the terminal corresponding to the emitter is the source.
