What is a High side switch?
A high-side switch is a semiconductor element that turns on/off the power supply to loads such as motors, solenoids, inductors, and LEDs. The semiconductor used is often a P-channel MOSFET. It is called a high-side switch because it is placed on the power supply side of the load in the wiring on the circuit. When the high-side switch is ON, power is supplied to the load, and when the high-side switch is OFF, power is not supplied to the load. When a switch is placed on the output side of the load (on the side opposite to the power supply) in the wiring on the circuit, it is called a low-side switch.
