What is a Ultrasonic microscope?
An ultrasonic microscope has a lower resolution than an electron microscope, but it is a device that can measure and observe minute areas with higher resolution than an optical microscope. In addition, it is possible to observe not only the sample surface but also the internal structure under the surface in a non-destructive manner. Ultrasonic microscopes include the Laser Scanning Acoustic Microscope (SLAM) and the Mechanical Scanning Acoustic Microscope. SAM. SAM mechanically scans the sample surface with ultrasonic waves to detect disturbed reflected waves from the sample. SLAM, on the other hand, detects the disturbed reflected waves of ultrasonic waves with a laser beam.
Application of Ultrasonic microscope
Ultrasonic microscopes are used for internal inspections of electronic parts, internal inspections of general materials, and confirmation of adhesive adhesion. Both are used to detect cracks, voids, peeling, etc. on bonded surfaces. Ultrasound has the property that waves propagate while being attenuated in areas where matter is continuous, but cannot propagate in non-continuous areas such as gaps, and most of them are reflected at the boundary surface. Therefore, it is possible to detect the reflected wave reflected by the peeled part or void.
