What is a Confocal microscope?
A confocal microscope is a type of optical microscope that has a mechanism to cut out-of-focus light by installing a pinhole on the focal plane in front of the detector, and obtains a sharp image without so-called "blurring". It is a microscope that can be used. It is possible to reconstruct a three-dimensional (3D) omnifocal image of an object by acquiring such an unblurred image in different z-axis (depth) directions and reconstructing it. Confocal microscopes are also known as confocal laser scanning microscopes.
Application of Confocal microscope
Confocal microscopes are used for inspection purposes in the industrial field and for observing cultured cells and individual organisms in life science research. When used in the industrial field, non-invasive three-dimensional shape inspection is performed by observing the uneven shape of the sample surface by irradiating the object with a laser and detecting various reflected light. In life science research, it is used to observe specific proteins, cells, and organs that are labeled with fluorescent proteins and organic dyes on biological samples.
