What is a Flow cytometer?
A flow cytometer is a device for performing a measurement method called flow cytometry. This measurement is a method of detecting the fluorescence emitted from cells by irradiating the cells existing in the fluidized liquid sample with laser light, and measuring the characteristics such as cell size, number, and cycle.
Compared to a microscope that can detect fluorescence, it has the advantages of being able to quantify various items, being easy to quantify, being able to detect quickly, and having high reproducibility, but it is useful for observing the morphological characteristics of cells. Is not suitable.
Application of Flow cytometer
Flow cytometers are widely used in research, clinical examinations, and treatments in the fields of biology and medicine that handle cells. There are various types of cells that can be measured. For the purpose of disease diagnosis, blood cells such as leukocytes and erythrocytes are analyzed, cultured mouse animal cells and plant cells are used for experiments, and adult stem cells and tumors are used. Rare cells such as founding cells are also used for the purpose of characteristic analysis.
In addition, microorganisms, marine organisms such as plankton, sperm, yeast and latex beads can also be measured.
