What is a Mixed signal oscilloscope?
A Mixed Signal Oscilloscope (MSO) is an oscilloscope capable of simultaneously analyzing both analog and digital signals. It combines the functionality of both an analog oscilloscope and a digital oscilloscope, allowing users to view both analog and digital channels at the same time. This feature enables the observation of both digital circuit behavior and analog signals, providing a detailed analysis of the entire system's operation.
MSOs are primarily used in the development and debugging of systems that involve both analog and digital signals, such as digital circuits, microcontrollers, FPGAs, and communication devices. By monitoring both digital waveform and analog signal waveform simultaneously, MSOs can quickly detect timing issues and waveform discrepancies.
Application of Mixed signal oscilloscope
✅ Debugging microcontroller systems
Analyze both analog sensors and digital signals simultaneously in microcontroller systems.
✅ Testing and development of FPGAs
Adjust the timing of digital signals from FPGA circuits and external analog signals.
✅ Inspection of communication devices
Check both analog and digital signals in communication circuits simultaneously.
✅ System analysis of electronic devices
Combine digital control signals and analog sensor signals to understand the overall behavior of the system.
