PIN diode / List of 7 manufacturers
What is a PIN diode?
A PIN diode is a diode that has an intrinsic I-type semiconductor with high electrical resistance between a P-type semiconductor and an N-type semiconductor to widen the depletion layer. The wide depletion layer improves the response characteristics. Since the central I-type semiconductor has high resistance, it has the smallest inter-terminal capacitance among diodes. The PN junction diode and forward voltage are almost the same. PIN diodes are used as high-frequency variable resistors because their resistance changes depending on the current that flows through them. It can also be used as a capacitor when reverse voltage is applied.
