What is a PIN photodiode?
A PIN photodiode is a type of photodiode that converts incident light into an electrical signal. There are three main types of photodiodes: PN type, PIN type, and Avalanche photodiode (APD). PIN photodiodes have a structure in which an intrinsic semiconductor, which is an insulator, is inserted between a P-type semiconductor and an N-type semiconductor. Compared to PN photodiodes, which consist of PN junctions of P-type semiconductors and N-type semiconductors, PIN photodiodes have a faster response speed from the time they are irradiated with light to the time they are converted into electrical signals.
