What is a Toscan?
Toscan is used to draw a marking line at a height parallel to the base surface such as a surface plate on a work piece. It is also used for rough centering when gripping black leather material on a 4-claw chuck of a general-purpose lathe. The arm with the marking part is fixed to the upright pedestal, and the marking part can be adjusted to any height. The marking part is equipped with a marking needle, a pencil, and a mechanical pencil that can be used to scratch the workpiece with a needle. Scriber needles are made of high speed steel. This series of tools is called Toscan.
Application of Toscan
In marking work, basically, Toscan does not move and slides the work piece to draw a marking line. Toscan is also used for centering work with a 4-jaw chuck on a general-purpose lathe. In this work, Toscan is usually used for rough rough centering work with black leather. By the way, centering is the work to minimize the runout of the workpiece when the chuck is rotated. Touch the toscan to a place with high runout, rotate the chuck, and check the gap between the toscan and the workpiece. Centering is performed by adjusting the tightening amount of each claw of the 4-claw chuck and eliminating the gap.
