What is a Brake disc?

The brake disc is a critical component of the braking system in cars and motorcycles, designed to reduce or stop the vehicle's speed. It rotates alongside the wheel, and when pressure is applied by the brake caliper and brake pads, friction is generated to decelerate the vehicle.

Brake discs are typically made of durable materials like cast iron or carbon steel, known for their high thermal conductivity, which helps dissipate the heat produced during braking. How Disc Brakes Work

When the driver presses the brake pedal, hydraulic pressure or electronic signals activate the brake caliper, pressing the brake pads against the brake disc.
This friction slows down the wheel's rotation, effectively decelerating or stopping the vehicle.
There are different types of brake discs, such as ventilated discs and solid discs:

Ventilated discs have internal ventilation channels, which improve heat dissipation, maintaining consistent performance during prolonged braking.
Solid discs are simpler and lighter, commonly used in smaller vehicles.
In modern electric and hybrid vehicles, disc brakes are also standard. They are often combined with regenerative braking systems, which convert braking energy into electricity.
