What is a Potassium phosphate?
Potassium phosphate is an inorganic salt composed of potassium (K⁺) and phosphate (PO₄³⁻) ions. It is widely used in agriculture as a fertilizer and in food and pharmaceutical industries. Common forms include monopotassium phosphate (KH₂PO₄) and dipotassium phosphate (K₂HPO₄), both highly water-soluble and efficient in delivering essential nutrients—potassium (K) and phosphorus (P)—to plants. In agriculture, it promotes root growth, photosynthesis, and disease resistance, and improves the quality and ripening of fruits and grains. Because it contains no nitrogen, it's often used as a late-stage fertilizer to avoid nitrogen overload. It's also used in foliar sprays and as a pH buffer.
In food and pharmaceuticals, it's used as a buffer, emulsifier, and electrolyte supplement. In medicine, it helps correct electrolyte imbalances. Proper storage requires dry, sealed containers. Excess use may lead to water pollution, so careful application is important.
