What is a Sodium phosphate?

Sodium phosphate is a group of inorganic salts derived from phosphoric acid and sodium. It includes several forms such as monosodium phosphate (NaH₂PO₄), disodium phosphate (Na₂HPO₄), and trisodium phosphate (Na₃PO₄). These compounds are highly soluble in water and are widely used in food processing, medicine, and industry. In the food industry, it serves as a food additive (E339) to regulate acidity, improve moisture retention in meats, and stabilize processed foods. In medicine, it is used as a laxative and bowel cleanser before medical procedures.

Industrially, it is applied as a detergent ingredient, water softener, rust inhibitor, and metal cleaner. Its buffering capability makes it valuable in chemical and biochemical applications. However, excessive intake can lead to high sodium or phosphate levels, so caution is advised for people with kidney problems.
