Catch tank / List of 3 manufacturers
What is a Catch tank?
Catch tanks are parts mainly used for internal combustion engines (gasoline / diesel engines). It has the role of accumulating impurities such as oil mist and sludge generated in the internal combustion engine and separating blow-by gas (unburned gas) and oil. In the field of motor sports, it is a part that is often obliged to be installed by regulation in terms of safety, and after-parts for that purpose are sold by each company.
Application of Catch tank
Blow-by gas generated during the engine combustion process is usually reintroduced into the intake path (such as the intake manifold inlet) via the PCV valve. At that time, the oil mist and sludge generated inside the engine are also reintroduced into the intake air, so the oil is also burned at high load and high rpm, causing white smoke. In addition, the oil mist may contaminate the inside of the suction path, and the air cleaner may get wet with oil, reducing the intake efficiency and causing oil to leak from the intake inlet. To prevent these, catch tanks are installed in the engines of racing cars and automobiles that make heavy use of high revs.
