Side cutter / List of 9 manufacturers
What is a Side cutter?
A side cutter is a type of cutting tool, and the side cutter has cutting edges on both the outer peripheral surface and both sides, and is also called a side milling cutter. The shape of the blade of the side cutter includes not only ordinary blades but also rough blades and staggered blades. Here, there is a cutting tool called a metal saw, which is very similar to a side cutter and is very difficult to distinguish and use. The metal saw has a cutting edge only on the outer peripheral surface, and there are normal blades and rough blades in the shape of the blade. As described above, the major difference between the side cutter and the metal saw is that the positions of the cutting edges held by both are different. As described above, the side cutter has an outer peripheral surface and both side surfaces, and the metal saw has an outer peripheral surface. The only difference is that you have a cutting edge.
Application of Side cutter
Side cutters are used as cutting tools for grooving, step cutting, side cutting, width determination, etc. So, there are differences in the applications in which side cutters and metal saws are suitable. Since the side cutter has cutting edges on both sides, the width, that is, the dimension in the thickness direction, is the largest at the cutting edge, and the dimensions of the main body are smaller than those of the metal saw. In other words, because the width of the main body is thinner than the width (thickness) of the cutting edge, even in cases where the depth of cut is large, the side surface of the main body and the side surface of the workpiece do not rub against each other, and the side surface of the groove is clean. Therefore, the side cutter is especially suitable for grooving.
