What is a Arc welder?
An arc welder is a welder that uses a discharge phenomenon called arc discharge as a heat source. Arc discharge is a phenomenon in which a high current flows between conductors that are not connected, causing the current to flow in non-conductive air. When an electric current flows, it becomes an excited state and becomes a high temperature of 5,000 to 20,000 ° C. Since iron melts at about 1,500 ° C, it can create a sufficient temperature to join the irons together. There are several types of arc welders, but basically, the discharge electrode or welding rod is melted and the base metal is joined. At this time, it is necessary to prevent oxidation and nitriding with an inert gas.
Application of Arc welder
Arc welding is used to join metal parts such as automobile parts, railroad cars, and construction machinery. Most are used for welding steel, but depending on the welding method, it can also be used for joining non-ferrous metals such as titanium and aluminum. Welding is performed in the atmosphere where a large amount of nitrogen and oxygen are present, so nitriding or oxidation can cause welding defects. To avoid this phenomenon, use an inert gas that blocks nitrogen and oxygen during arc welding. These inert gases are called shield gases, and argon and carbon dioxide are used.
