What is a Zener diode?
A Zener diode is an element that has a relatively small reverse voltage and a stable voltage value among diodes that connect an n-type semiconductor and a p-type semiconductor. Also known as a zener diode. A normal diode exhibits a rectifying effect in which the degree of conduction changes according to the polarity of the bias applied to both ends, and current does not flow even if a very high reverse bias voltage is applied. However, special diodes called Zener diodes exhibit diode characteristics in which a large amount of current flows suddenly when a relatively small reverse bias voltage above a certain threshold is applied. A constant voltage can be maintained in the circuit by using the rectification characteristics unique to Zener diodes.
