What is a Eddy current flaw detector / Eddy current tester?
An eddy current tester is a non-destructive testing device used to detect defects on the surface or within materials and structures. The eddy current testing method utilizes induced currents (eddy currents) to obtain information about the electrical conductivity or magnetic properties of the sample, detecting anomalies such as cracks, corrosion, or other defects. Eddy current testers are primarily used for inspecting metal materials, especially in critical applications such as aircraft parts, pressure vessels, and pipelines, where reliability is crucial.
The eddy current tester induces a high-frequency electrical current into the material, and the resulting eddy currents are measured. If there is a defect, abnormalities in the eddy current distribution occur, which can be detected as a signal. This allows for the early detection of fine defects that would not be visible to the naked eye.
This technology is particularly effective for inspecting metal surfaces or thin components and helps avoid destructive testing, leading to cost and time savings. It is also used for inspecting complex-shaped parts or parts in hazardous environments, improving safety and efficiency.
Application of Eddy current flaw detector / Eddy current tester
✅Aircraft Parts Inspection
Eddy current testers are used on metal parts of aircraft, such as wings and engine components. They play a crucial role in detecting fine cracks or corrosion, which may not be visible to the naked eye, ensuring the safety and reliability of the aircraft.
✅Pipeline and Boiler Inspections
Eddy current testers are used to detect corrosion and cracks in high-pressure pipes and boilers. This helps in preventive maintenance and avoids accidents by identifying potential issues before they become critical.
✅Automotive Parts Inspection
Eddy current testers are used for inspecting metal parts of automobiles, such as chassis and engine components. The technology helps detect fine defects that could affect the structural integrity and safety of the vehicle.
✅Railway Wheel Inspections
Eddy current testers are employed to inspect railway wheels and rails for wear or cracks. Early detection of defects ensures safety by preventing accidents and facilitating timely maintenance.
