What is a Eddy current flaw detector?
An eddy current flaw detector is a device that measures scratches on an object using eddy currents. It is used to find damage and imperfections near the surface. There are various types of flaw detectors, including magnetic particle flaw detectors, penetrant flaw detectors, and ultrasonic flaw detectors in addition to eddy current flaw detectors. Among them, the eddy current flaw detector is excellent in that it is easy to operate and can measure without contact. In addition to being used for inspection of aircraft and automobiles, it is also used for inspecting conductivity and thin film thickness. This is because not only scratches but also conductivity and film thickness are related to changes in eddy currents.
Application of Eddy current flaw detector
Eddy current testing is mainly used for surface scratches and defect inspection. For example, cracks and scratches on the product, and burning cracks when heat-treated. Scratched products are difficult to ship and can cause accidents and injuries. In the inspection process, we use a device such as an eddy current flaw detector to perform inspections. You can also use an eddy current test to check the thickness of paints and coatings. When measuring a thin film on a metal substrate, the larger the distance between the metal and the probe, the smaller the eddy current generated. The thickness is measured using this change.
