What is a Refrigerated storage / Frozen storage?
Refrigerated storage is a method of storing foods, medicines, etc. at low temperatures, generally maintaining a temperature range of 2 to 8 degrees. This temperature range is suitable for suppressing microbial growth and maintaining product quality and safety. On the other hand, frozen storage is a method of storing products at extremely low temperatures, generally at temperatures below -18 degrees Celsius. This low temperature completely stops microbial activity, allowing the product to maintain its freshness and quality for a long time.
Application of Refrigerated storage / Frozen storage
1.Refrigerated Storage for Food
Dairy products like milk, fruits, and vegetables need refrigerated storage. By keeping these in a refrigerator, bacterial growth is slowed, preserving freshness for a few days. For example, milk stored at around 4°C can stay fresh for several days, delaying spoilage.
2.Refrigerated Storage for Pharmaceuticals
Certain medications, such as insulin or vaccines, require refrigerated storage. By storing these at approximately 5°C, their potency is preserved. If the refrigerator's temperature fluctuates or becomes too warm, the medication may lose its effectiveness and become unusable.
3.Frozen Storage for Food
Fish, meat, and frozen vegetables are stored at sub-zero temperatures for long-term preservation. For example, meat stored at -18°C can remain fresh for several months, preserving its nutrients and flavor when thawed.
4.Frozen Storage for Pharmaceuticals
Some medications and blood products must be stored frozen. These are kept at temperatures below -20°C to maintain their quality over time. This applies to products such as vaccines and cell cultures.
